The verdict
Yes, for an easy walk-in evening in Little Italy. Order a mixed board and the pastis deviled eggs if they're on the chalkboard. Then let the staff pick from the wine board and commit to a carafe or a litre, since the price per pour drops as you go. It's a neighbourhood bar with good food, not a big-night dinner, and parties of two can't book. Go Wednesday or Thursday: it's closed Tuesday, and Thanksgiving Monday is unconfirmed.

- Wine priced by volume: the more you share, the less each glass costs

Mamie, the short list
Must order
Planches (charcuterie and cheese boards)
Sharing boards of charcuterie and cheese; Tastet describes a charcuterie board, a cheese board and a mixed one.
The official site names the boards as one of two permanent chalkboard items, and every write-up leads with them. Get the mixed one.
Must order
Deviled eggs with pastis
Deviled eggs with a hit of pastis.
This dish put Bar Mamie on Tastet's best deviled eggs in Montréal list, which singled out the pastis twist.
Must order
Wine à la verse (by the glass, carafe, litre or more)
House pours in red, white, rosé and skin-contact, sold by volume, with the price per glass dropping as you order more. There's also a rotating chalkboard of small-producer and natural wines, plus a list of rarer bottles if you ask.
The whole concept: the bigger the pour you commit to, the less each glass costs. Share a litre.
Croque-monsieur
The house croque, the other permanent item on the chalkboard.
The official site lists it as one of the two dishes that stay on the chalkboard year-round. Order it if you want something more filling than a board.
Onglet-frites
Hanger steak with fries.
The Main lists it among the unfussy plates that define the kitchen. Order it if you want a proper main.
Escargot brochettes
Snails served on skewers.
A bistro snack The Main singled out in its 2026 wine bar guide.
Burrata with seasonal vegetables
Burrata plated with whatever vegetables are in season.
The lightest plate in The Main's rundown, and a good partner for a board.
Tarte Tatin
Classic caramelized upside-down apple tart.
The Main's dessert pick, and apple season makes it the obvious finish in October.
What people actually say
Recurring themes, not cherry-picked quotes.
Love
- The boards: charcuterie, cheese or both, with the Québec cheeses singled out
- Wine by volume from a rotating chalkboard of small-producer and natural bottles, plus a quieter list of rarer finds
- Warm, jargon-free service that treats first-timers like regulars
- A cozy vintage room that reads like a wine-loving grandmother's kitchen
- Nostalgic French small plates, with the pastis deviled eggs a standout
Know before you go
- Simple, unfussy food by design; the owner says outright it isn't aiming for gastronomy
- Walk-in only for small groups

- No reservations under 8 people: walk in
- Closed Tuesdays, so not Oct 13
- Thanksgiving Monday Oct 12 opening unconfirmed (normally Mon 4pm-midnight)

- Room
- Vintage plates and prints, light wood panelling and shelves of bottles, plus mementos of the owner's late grandmother and postcards he sent her as a kid. Laid-back and social, with a sunny terrace in summer.
- Service
- Friendly and welcoming in every write-up. Staff are trained to talk about wine without jargon and to steer you by taste.
- Value
- Tastet rates it $$. By-volume pricing makes a shared carafe or litre better value than single glasses. No prices are published, so exact costs are unconfirmed.
Vibe check
cozy/casual/wine heavy/low key
Best foran apéro or 5 à 7 over boards, a casual date over a carafe, a relaxed small-group evening
How much we'll spend
Tastet rates Bar Mamie $$. No prices are published because the menu is on a chalkboard. Wine is sold by volume, and the price per pour drops as you order more, so a shared carafe or litre is the better deal. For reference only, Tastet reported dish prices of $5-32 at the sister Plateau location in Feb 2026; Beaubien prices are not confirmed.
