The verdict

Worth it only if you already want to be out west by the river or on a bike. The draw is the rapids themselves and the birdlife (the city cites the largest heron colony in Québec), not foliage. Free, open daily, easy to pair with a ride along the waterfront path. Skip it if you only have a few hours and want a headline fall-colours spot.

  • River drama at the Lachine Rapids
  • Free, with free parking
  • Birdwatching and a waterfront cycling path

Why maybeFree, open daily and genuinely scenic, but peripheral to a 4-day trip and not a foliage headliner. Oct 12 hours unconfirmed.

Our estimate from posted prices, CAD, before tax and tip. Québec purchases carry the 5% federal GST plus the 9.975% Québec Sales Tax (QST, TVQ in French): 14.975% combined on taxable items. Tourisme Montréal: it is customary to tip restaurant servers, taxi drivers and hairdressers 15% of the bill, before taxes. Bellhops, porters and doormen generally get at least $2 per bag or service; coffee and food counters often have a tip cup by the register.

Is it worth it?

Yes for a half-day bike or walk by the water, no as a stand-alone trip if time is tight. The rapids are the attraction; autumn colour is incidental.
