The verdict

Go, and bring an appetite: this is a share-everything Syrian dinner in one of the most theatrical rooms in the city. First visit, either try the $160 tasting menu or build your own around the chef's mezze platter, the fattouch and the lamb fattet mozat. It is a splurge, but it serves dinner every night of the week, which makes it a rare top-tier option for a Monday-to-Thursday trip. Thanksgiving Monday still needs a phone call.

  • From Alessia's list
  • Canada's 100 Best 2025 (No. 91) and a MICHELIN Guide Québec selection
  • One of the most striking dining rooms in Montréal
  • Dinner seven nights a week, so it works on any night of a Mon-Thu trip

Damas, the short list

  • Must order

    Lamb shoulder fattet mozat

    $59

Lamb shoulder with tahini yogurt, herbs, ghee and pine nuts.

The house signature: Tastet and Canada's 100 Best both name the fattet mozat (the 2025 write-up says lamb shank, the current menu says shoulder). Rich, so share it.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Must order

    Fattouch salad

    $28

Fattoush heavy on herbs and lemon; offered in two sizes.

The salad MICHELIN, Tastet and The Main all name. The bright counterweight to a lamb-heavy table.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas). $28 or $38 (two sizes on the official menu)

  • Must order

    Chef's mezzes platter

    $36

Hummus, mouhammara, beet mutabbal and eggplant mutabbal on one plate.

Canada's 100 Best points diners to the muhammara and beet mutabbal; this gets you both plus hummus. The smart opener for two.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Hummus lamb shawarma

    $45

Hummus topped with lamb shawarma, pomegranate molasses and pine nuts.

The Main calls out the hummus crowned with lamb. A hot mezze substantial enough to anchor the table.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Stuffed beef pastirma, crispy quail eggs

    $34

Stuffed pastirma (cured, spiced beef) with crispy quail eggs.

Pastirma is one of the dishes the MICHELIN inspectors name.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Grilled octopus, chickpea salad, lemon aioli

    $46

Grilled octopus over a chickpea salad with lemon aioli.

Cult MTL singles out the charred octopus. A lighter pick between the lamb dishes.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Eggplant lamb kebab

    $52

Lamb kebab with eggplant, tomato butter sauce and garlic labneh, from the specialties and charcoal grills section.

Your kebab moment: Cult MTL calls out the classic kebabs and MICHELIN says to get the lamb.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

  • Pistachio ashta ice cream with Syrian cotton candy

    $19

Ashta (clotted cream) and pistachio ice cream with Syrian cotton candy.

The playful finish on the current dessert menu. One for the table.

On their menu: Official website (Restaurant Damas)

What people actually say

Recurring themes, not cherry-picked quotes.

Love

  • The room: ornate, colourful and high-ceilinged, with tilework, hanging lamps, carved wood and rich fabrics. It comes up in nearly every write-up.
  • Warm, generous hospitality; staff pace a big meal without rushing and make Syrian food easy for first-timers.
  • Lamb in many forms plus the charcoal grill, with the fattet mozat as the recurring signature.
  • Vegetable mezze and salads get the same care as the meat, so vegetarians eat well.
  • The tasting menu is pitched as a way to sample and share widely, which suits the family-style format.
  • A deep cellar with Syrian and Lebanese bottles and many private imports.

Know before you go

  • It is a splurge; critics frame it as a special-occasion dinner.
  • Ordering a few dishes keeps the bill reasonable; the full spread adds up fast.
  • A big, busy room with families and long tables: lively rather than hushed.
  • Sit in the main room near the kitchen to watch the bread puff and the grill.
  • Thanksgiving Monday (Oct 12) not confirmed: call (514) 439-5435
  • Book on OpenTable via the official site; parties over eight email info@damas.ca
  • Ask for the main dining room near the kitchen to watch the bread and the charcoal grill

Dishes that keep coming up

fattet mozat, fattoush, muhammara, beet mutabbal, hummus with lamb, pastirma, grilled octopus, kebabs

Room
Large, ornate and theatrical: red-and-black palette, hanging lamps, Middle Eastern music, just over 100 seats plus a 70-seat terrace for warm months. Busy most nights.
Service
Consistently described as warm and generous, pacing an abundant meal well.
Value
Expensive by Montréal standards; reviewers call it worth it as an occasional splurge, and Tastet notes that ordering a few dishes keeps it sensible.

Synthesized from editorial sources only: Tastet (updated Apr 2026), MICHELIN Guide listing, The Main (updated Jan 2026), Cult MTL (Jun 2025), The Infatuation (Dec 2024) and Canada's 100 Best (2019, 2025). How much we'll spend

$$$$Est. $90-186 / person

Official menus: cold mezzes $24-38, hot mezzes $28-46, Syrian specialties and grills $48-62 (rib steak $29 per 100 g, mixed grill for two $220), desserts $19-22, cocktails $19-26, beers $12-15. Sharing two or three mezzes plus a main each and one drink lands roughly $90-150 per person depending on picks; the $160 tasting menu plus one cocktail is $179-186. Wine pairings add $85-150. Before tax and tip. MICHELIN, Tastet and The Infatuation all rate it $$$$.

Tourisme Montréal: it is customary to tip restaurant servers, taxi drivers and hairdressers 15% of the bill, before taxes. Bellhops, porters and doormen generally get at least $2 per bag or service; coffee and food counters often have a tip cup by the register.
