The verdict
Yes, and it's on our side of town. Try for seats at the long bar and order across the menu: the white-bolognese gnocchetti and pil-pil scallops are the anchors, with a red pepper negroni to start. It could suit a late second meal; confirm it is open on Thanksgiving Monday before you plan around it. The catch: it opened only weeks ago, plates are small, and early diners are split on value and service.
- From Alessia's list
- Listed 7th in The Main's best new restaurants in Montréal, October 2026
- Open 7 days until 2am with a late-running kitchen
- In Griffintown, our home neighbourhood

Umarell, the short list
Must order
Gnocchetti sardi alla bolognese bianca
Small ridged Sardinian pasta shells with a white take on bolognese.
Tastet's biggest favourite of the meal.
Must order
Red pepper negroni
House negroni (Tanqueray, Campari, Cinzano and Cocchi Americano vermouths) infused for 24 hours with roasted red peppers.
The house signature cocktail, per Tastet.
Scallops in pil-pil sauce
Scallops in a Basque emulsion of olive oil, garlic and chili.
Tastet's other favourite, singled out for very tender scallops.
Mushroom pizza
Elongated pizza that folds a bit like a pizza portafoglio, made to pass around the middle of the table.
The general manager's pick per Tastet, though one early diner on RestoMontreal was let down by the funghi pizza. Optional, not essential.
What people actually say
Recurring themes, not cherry-picked quotes.
Love
- Keeps the warm, convivial Mano Cornuto hospitality while widening the food and wine range
- Flavour-forward small plates; pastas, tartare and fish get singled out by diners
- Friendly, attentive floor staff in most early reviews
- Good value for a group sharing lots of plates
Know before you go
- Portions are small (Tastet says so too); diners split on whether the price matches
- Two very recent reviews (Oct 7) complained of dismissive service and slow waits
- One diner was disappointed by the mushroom pizza and a sweet tomato-sauced dish
- Still a new opening, so the menu is likely to keep moving
- Reservations recommended: Resy for 1 to 8 guests, phone (514) 846-2426 for bigger groups
- Thanksgiving Monday (Oct 12) hours are not confirmed: call (514) 846-2426 first
- As of Oct 8, early-evening tables were already gone on Tue Oct 13 and Thu Oct 15
Dishes that keep coming up
Gnocchetti sardi with white bolognese, Scallops in pil-pil sauce, Mushroom pizza, Red pepper negroni, Pasta with slow-cooked meat ragù, Charred flatbread with pulled meat, Sweet-and-salty butter tart
- Room
- A big, warm room (about 85 seats inside plus about 30 on a covered terrace) built around a bar roughly 40% longer than the old one, set up for social, across-the-bar conversation. Terracotta, tile and slatted wood floors survive from the AYLA days. High-energy and social, especially late.
- Service
- Mostly described as warm and attentive in early reviews, with a couple of sharp complaints about dismissive service and long waits in the first week of October.
- Value
- Tastet calls prices genuinely reasonable, with most plates under $20, but portions are small so the bill grows with the number of plates; some diners felt it was overpriced.
Vibe check
buzzy/lively/wine heavy/casual
Best fora late second dinner, a glass and a few plates at the bar
How much we'll spend
Tastet says most plates are under $20 but portions are small, so it suggests ordering several, ideally one per section (snacks, crudos, pastas, mains, pizzas). Tastet tags it $$$ while RestoMontreal lists $$. No official menu prices online, so no per-person range; a full spread or a bottle pushes it into $$$.
