The verdict

Book it. Cadet is an easy yes for a Monday-to-Thursday trip: regular hours cover every night, the menu moves with the market, and the counter facing the kitchen is a great seat for two. Get the calamari, the miso black cod and the focaccia for the sauces, plus a vegetable plate or two. The catch: it gets loud, and the $38-50 fish and meat plates add up fast if you over-order.

Cadet, the short list

  • Must order

    Calamari (Calmars)

    $24

Squid with cauliflower, Asian pear and a chili beurre blanc.

The plate everyone circles back to: Michelin and Time Out both single it out, and recent diners keep praising the sauce.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Must order

    Black cod (Morue charbonnière)

    $38

Black cod with miso sauce, daikon and kale.

The most-praised plate in this summer's diner reviews. If you order one bigger plate, make it this one.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Must order

    Focaccia

    $6

Focaccia with cheddar and spicy oil.

Six dollars, and diners keep telling you to order it alongside the saucier plates. Get it first.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Broccoli (Brocoli)

    $18

Broccoli with spätzle, labneh and pistachios.

Time Out names it among the reasons to go, and it shows off the vegetable side of the menu that critics rate.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Leeks (Poireaux)

    $23

Leeks with smoked mackerel, mustard and tobikko.

Michelin flags a leek-and-mackerel plate, and recent diners list it among their highlights.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Beef tartare (Tartare de bœuf)

    $20

Hand-cut beef tartare with mushrooms and Asiago.

Both Michelin and Time Out call it out; a rich, safe anchor for the table.

On their menu: Official website (French)

  • Fried sea bass (Robalo frit)

Fried sea bass with bok choy, soy and nuoc mam.

A recurring favourite in recent reviews and a good centrepiece for two to share.

On their menu: Official website (French). No price on the official menu; ask your server.

  • Chocolate tart (Tarte au chocolat)

    $12

Chocolate tart with peanuts, chantilly and banana.

Michelin's dessert pick and the dessert diners mention most.

What people actually say

Recurring themes, not cherry-picked quotes.

Love

  • The miso black cod and the calamari with chili beurre blanc are the plates people praise most
  • Sauces and bold flavour combinations get singled out again and again
  • Servers who guide the order, suggest how many plates to get and make good wine and cocktail calls
  • A well-designed room with counter seats facing the kitchen; casual, but it still feels like a night out
  • A deep wine list with decent non-alcoholic options
  • The focaccia and bread, for mopping up sauce

Know before you go

  • A recurring minority feel portions are small for the price, and big orders get expensive
  • Some recent reviews report over-salted or mis-cooked plates, so execution is not perfectly consistent
  • Service slows on busy nights
  • Loud when full
  • Fills up early; book ahead
  • Book on Resy: one recent diner found the room full even at a 5pm seating
  • Oct 12 is Thanksgiving: regular hours include Mondays, but there is no holiday confirmation yet

Dishes that keep coming up

Miso black cod, Calamari with chili beurre blanc, Fried sea bass, Focaccia, Leeks with smoked mackerel, Scallops, Eggplant, Broccoli with spätzle and labneh, Beef tartare, Chocolate tart

Room
Minimalist, industrial-chic room with a partly open kitchen and a 20-seat bar. Livelier and louder than its fine-dining sibling; diners describe it as warm and buzzy, sometimes too loud.
Service
Mostly praised: servers explain the plates, pace the sharing and give useful pairing advice. A few summer 2026 reviews describe slow ordering or a cold reception on busy nights.
Value
The Bib Gourmand means Michelin rates it good value, and most plates sit at $15-28. The bigger fish and meat plates run $32-50 and add up quickly; a few diners felt the bill outran the portions.

Synthesized from the Michelin and Time Out (March 2026) write-ups, Tastet's 2018 review (refreshed Jan 2026), the Tourisme Montréal listing and about 50 dated diner reviews from June to September 2026 shown on Restoenligne. No Reddit threads surfaced; Tripadvisor, Resy, Facebook and Instagram could not be read directly.

How much we'll spend

$$$$Est. $48-75 / person

Food only, from official menu prices: plates mostly $15-28, fish and meat $32-50 (fried sea bass unpriced). Assumes roughly three to four shared plates plus dessert per person at the low end and adds a larger plate at the high end (our assumption, not a Michelin figure). Drink prices are not published, so one drink comes on top (unverified), which puts it in tier 3.

Our estimate from posted prices, CAD, before tax and tip. Québec purchases carry the 5% federal GST plus the 9.975% Québec Sales Tax (QST, TVQ in French): 14.975% combined on taxable items. Tourisme Montréal: it is customary to tip restaurant servers, taxi drivers and hairdressers 15% of the bill, before taxes. Bellhops, porters and doormen generally get at least $2 per bag or service; coffee and food counters often have a tip cup by the register.
